Well, everybody has their own reason why should read some books. Mostly, it will relate to their necessity to get knowledge from the book and want to read just to get entertainment. Novels, story book, and other entertaining books become so popular this day. Besides, the scientific books will also be the best reason to choose, especially for the students, teachers, doctors, businessman, and other professions who are fond of reading.

Soil moisture initialization for climate prediction: Assimilation of scanning multifrequency microwave radiometer soil moisture data into a land surface model

[1] Climate model prediction skill is currently limited in response to poor land surface soil moisture state initialization. However, initial soil moisture state prediction skill can potentially be enhanced by the assimilation of remotely sensed near-surface soil moisture data in off-line simulation. This study is one of the first to evaluate such potential using actual remote sensing data toge...

Assimilation of Freeze–Thaw Observations into the NASA Catchment Land Surface Model

The land surface freeze-thaw (F/T) state plays a key role in the hydrological and carbon cycles and thus affects water and energy exchanges and vegetation productivity at the land surface. In this study, an F/T assimilation algorithm was developed for the NA SA G oddard E arth Observing System, version 5 (GEOS-5), modeling and assimilation framework. The algorithm includes a newly developed obs...

Methods and examples for remote sensing data assimilation in land surface process modeling

Land surface process models describe the energy, water, carbon, and nutrient fluxes on a local to regional scale using a set of environmental land surface parameters and variables. They need time series of spatially distributed inputs to account for the large spatial and temporal variability of land surface processes. In principle many of these inputs can be derived through remote sensing using...

Drought Monitoring and Drought Prediction in China Using Remote Sensing, Land Surface Models (lsm) and Data Assimilation: Preliminary Results of the Loess Plateau Field Experiment in 2005 (lopex05)

The Dragon project “drought monitoring and drought prediction” will be used to develop a system to monitor and generate predictions of the soil moisture conditions in the root zone. The methodology that will be employed is based on the direct assimilation of satellite observation in a land surface modeling framework. The advantage of this methodology is that physically based methods can be used...

Re-thinking Sensitivity of Model Parameter Values in Soil Moisture Assimilation Using the Evolutionary Data Assimilation

The sensitivity of land surface model parameters is usually examined for one parameter at a time in response to changes in observation data and/or the model estimated output. This parameter independence approach assumes that there are limited interactions between model parameters a precondition which is highly unlikely for land surface models. Additionally, the model parameter values are widely...
